On Thursday June 15th I will begin a journey riding my bicycle across our Country, from San Diego, CA. to Annapolis, Maryland, totaling to 3,076-miles in 30-days. I will cycling through 12-States, going over three mountain ranges & climbing 175,000-ft. I was originally asked to do this ride with another friend who had to back out a couple of weeks ago, so I took this challenge upon myself to go forward with it alone with the exception of the first three days.
I have ridden over 8,500 miles since January of 2016 in preparation for this Ride Across America, riding 1,121 miles in the month of April alone. A few of my friends and family tried talking me out of it, but being the stubborn person I am, I had to follow through with this commitment.
I’ve lost over 30-lbs. since February of 2016 which will help me get my fat ass over the Colorado Rockies where I will be crossing the Continental Divide at Wolf Creek Pass (elevation of 10,856’, right outside of Durango, Co. and part of the San Juan, Rocky Mountain Range).
We plan on leaving after dipping our rear wheels in Torrey Pines State Beach (Pacific Ocean) around 5:00am on that Thursday and then 30-days later to dip my front wheel in the Chesapeake Bay (Atlantic Ocean) at the conclusion of this journey.
Instead of just doing the ride, I have recently contacted a couple of charities. I’m going to support Alzheimer’s / San Diego where 100% of the proceeds will stay right here in San Diego to serve families and support research. I chose this charity due to our friend Karl that was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s over a year ago.
The other charity I chose is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Why? Because we all have or know someone who has a loved one affected with cancer in some form or another.
I’m committed to raise a minimum of 10,000 dollars between the two charities. I will also shave my head before the start of my ride in support of children with cancer.
